Upcycling

Wherever possible, I like to talk to customers about the idea of using their own jewellery to make new pieces. It can be the case that people have old, unworn, handed-down, or unwanted jewellery.

Sentimental jewellery, such as jewellery left in a will or from a previous marriage can be made wearable again, and those special items can be given a new life. Recycling individual gemstones is sometimes the best way of giving new life to an old piece of jewellery.

If you want to get started transforming your jewels or metals, don't hesitate to send me an email via the contact section below.

Think about the jewellery you want to design with me. This may mean getting some images together on Pinterest, or browsing through different styles on the internet. This helps me understand what pieces you would be interested in me creating with you.

FAQs

Can we use mixed gold?

It is possible to make new jewellery out of multiple different pieces of your own gold. However, it is important to note that the hallmark (mark on metal which signifies metal purity) will represent that of the lowest karat of gold in the mixture.

Can I use my own gemstone?

Yes! I love using customers own gemstones, however just like any gemstone that I purchase for you there is always a risk of breakage during the setting process. When I have bought the gemstone for you (and it is of a clarity I am comfortable with) I will cover this replacement cost, but if it is your own stone, you would have to cover this cost.

Will this save me money?

Sometimes the amount of gold you give me to create a new piece will cancel out the costs of own can casting/handmaking time, however as a rule of thumb, the cost will not vary significantly. The motivation for doing this is usually sentimental, rather than cost effectiveness.
