Life & Work

As a young person I found myself gripped by both the arts and sciences. During school my physics coursework was always surrounded by drawings, and my art projects tended to focus on the scientific or natural world. Incorporating these two elements in one career was vital, leading me to jewellery.

At the Birmingham School of Jewellery I studied a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Jewellery and Silversmithing, before being accepted into a final year studying Design for Industry (DFI). I completed a Gem-A Level 4 in Gemmology and Diamond Diploma with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, becoming an accredited gemmologist and diamond grader (FGA, DGA) and a fellow of the Gemmological Association.

The natural world has fascinated me since my early years, when my Dad would take my sisters and me fossil collecting. These formative experiences made me curious about what else might be in the earth under our feet. An appreciation of our shared environment and the plants and animals inhabiting it has inspired much of my design work. In my work, I enjoy highlighting aspects of plants or animals which are unique, and incorporating these natural forms in the jewellery.

Given the challenges faced by our environment as a result of human caused damage, I feel it is the responsibility of both the creator and wearer of jewellery to be ethical in our choices, and minimise the impact we have. For this reason, I only buy gemstones which are sustainably mined or lab-grown, and precious metals which have been recycled. With each item I sell, you can be confident in the history and origin of any gemstones, and the environmental impact of the process as a whole.
