This ring was hand carved in wax, direct cast into recycled silver (it is one of a kind) and the large white opal was set by me. Inspired by seaweed, a beautiful and abundant macro-algae which grows in colonies to form underwater forests, these provide shelter and food for a variety of organisms 🌿. One particular red seaweed called Porphyra is known as ‘nori’ in Japan and is one of the main ingredients in sushi. Seaweed can also grow 2 ft in one day and is only now being recognised for its climate-change fixing abilities🤘🏻. Super-powered seaweeds are estimated to be absorbing around 190 million tons of carbon each year, about as much as the annual emissions of the state of New York.
